The Territory of Spirits is a picture travelogue about the expedition Topvar West Papua 2003 – 2004 which tried to find previously unknown native tribes untouched by civilization. At the same time as the book was published, a documentary directed by Michal Ruttkay and Ladislav Gulik was filmed. The film is about a dangerous journey across the largest unexplored jungle in the world where one must go back in time to the Stone Age. The Territory of Spirits is a story about endless desire to touch the unknown. What is the point of knowing? The knowledge at all costs. The doubts about what happens when two disparate worlds combine. How much time remains for the weaker civilization to survive? A month? A year? Will it survive at all?
